We want to give you all an update on the Vegetarian Festival and what our group will be doing for the event!  First of all, very exciting news, we have our own banner!  The picture is below and it will be hanging at our table and we can use it for all future events!  Also, we are offering event goers all kinds of freebies to sign up for our mailing list!  A wonderful animal rights supporter and Etsy artist gave us a discount on animal rights buttons and we will have over a 100 varying designs available.  Members are welcome to grab one as well! We will have various bumper stickers and regular stickers, a board with pictures of our past events, some of the posters we have used in protests, and all kinds of information to share on animal testing, horse slaughter, fur, the egg industry, the circus and much MUCH more!

The Vegetarian Festival is Saturday, June 18th from noon to 6:00 pm at Bryan Park in Richmond. Details can be found here: http://www.veggiefest.org/ We are asking you to volunteer at our table in 1 hour shifts so you can also enjoy the festival (tons of free samples, music, new foods and animals for adoption).  At the table you will hand out materials and answer questions about the group or general animal rights issues and encourage people to sign up for our email list.  We will have several people at the table at a time and Jackie plans to be there the entire time.  Please let us know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you can table any of these shifts:.

noon-1:00 pm
1:00-2:00 pm
2:00-3:00 pm
3:00-4:00 pm
5:00-6:00 pm

Also, the organizers are desperate for general volunteers to help out the day before (Friday) for set up, and volunteers the morning of the festival and as needed. Please email us if you can help out and Jackie can put you in touch with organizers.

A huge thank you in advance!  This is a great event for us to spread our message and expand our group and to celebrate the amazing food, the humane lifestyle and the camaraderie of being vegetarian and vegan!

Ringling is coming...

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

In past years Ringling has had many more weekend shows, and the good news is they only have 4 this year. We would like to have protesters present at each of the shows. It is so important that each show has a show of support for the animals and info for circus goers on why this is wrong.  As usual, the most important demonstration is opening night- that is the Wednesday, April 20, 7 pm show, 6 pm (or earlier) protest.  PLEASE do everything within your power to make it to this one.  Bring your kids, your friends, your mom, your dog walker...And please (begging with vegan goodies at each protest) try to make it to AS MANY of the shows to protest as possible.  We start protesting 1 hour prior to the show time and continue a half hour into the show time.  So each protest will be 90 minutes.   We will take any time you can give!  30 minutes is still long enough to make a difference!

Materials will be provided- leaflets, posters, etc.  We will (hopefully) have 2 portable DVD players showing undercover "training" footage.  We will need 2 volunteers to hold those - one located at either ends of the parking garage where the most people are exiting to cross the street to the circus. We also need volunteers to leaflet at each show.  You don't have to be pushy - just smile and offer a leaflet.  Let us know if you are interested in these special roles.  MANY people have told us their eyes have been opened to the cruelty of circuses; fur etc. by a simple pamphlet and a smiling good Samaritan.

Richmond Coliseum Richmond, Virginia

Protest Dates/Times:

#1- Wed, Apr 20:   6 pm – 7:30 pm *most important!

#2 -Thu, Apr 21:    6 pm – 7:30 pm

Fri, Apr 22:  (2) protests- #3 Noon-1:30 pm
#4 6 pm – 7:30 pm

Sat, Apr 23: (3) protests- #5 10 am – 11:30 am
#6 2 pm – 3:30 pm
#7 6 pm – 7:30 pm

Sun, Apr 24: #8 2 pm – 3:30 pm

Please be on the lookout for any companies, radio stations, or churches/schools promoting or giving away tickets for Ringling.  We have a letter we can send out on the group's behalf so send us the company name, any contact info you can find and what the promotion is and we will send them a letter!

ALSO, On Ringling opening day, PETA will be holding a press conference at noon on April 20th.  If you are interested in attending, here is the facebook site:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=199655746719520 or you can contact PETA's Action Team at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

To get ready for Ringling and to foster a feeling of solidarity, Jackie would like to host a vegan ice cream party at her house on Saturday, April 9th, at 6 pm.  Please try to attend if you can- it would be great to get to know all of you better! Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for directions.

Thank you in advance for your commitment to helping circus animals!
